About

I’m a relative latecomer to road cycling but I’ve grown to love it. A few summers ago some mates and I did John O’Groats to Land’s End by bike and I can honesty say it was one of the best ‘holidays’ I have had (you can read more about it in Neil Johnson’s excellent postings here); something to do with a combination of open roads and the sense of being on a journey. Since then I’ve been looking to do something along similar lines as a challenge.

Having followed the Tour (and the Giro and Vuelta) increasingly closely over the past few years this seems like the obvious choice so I’ve booked a month and a half off work in June this Summer to take the trip. Unfortunately no-one else seems to be keen on doing it, so I’ll be supported by a pit-crew of my loving parents, who will have just retired, and obviously their dream start to retirement involves a trip in a camper van with their son round France.

I’m hoping this blog will generate some sponsorship and possibly some training partners; I’ve got an awful lot of miles to do on the bike before June.
